2014 Sweet Embrace Stakes Nominations Released

March 11th, 2014

A talented field of 12 two-year-old fillies have been nominated for the 2014 Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) to be run at Royal Randwick this Saturday, including exciting Golden Slipper prospect Twirl.

Twirl contested three impressive Randwick barrier trials prior to debuting on course competitively in the TAB Iphone App Plate (1000m) on January 25th, confirming her talent when second behind boom colt Rubick.

Finishing third behind talented filly Mossfun and Ygritte in the Group 3 Widden Stakes most recently, trainer Gai Waterhouse is understandably confident Twirl can lay a serious claim on the Sweet Embrace Stakes this weekend, particularly if allocated a favourable gate at Wednesday’s barrier draw.

Also included in nominations for the 2014 Sweet Embrace Stakes is leading Peter Moody-trained chance Bring Me The Maid.

Bring Me The Maid debuted second in a strong Cranbourne barrier trial before claiming his maiden race start; the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) at Flemington on March 1st.

Owned by the syndicate of Wylie Dalzeil and the late, great Roy Higgins, Moody is confident Bring Me The Maid will continue her so-far perfect career start in this weekend’s Sweet Embrace Stakes and continue on to the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on April 12th.

Written Tycoon filly Press Report ran an impressive second behind Mossfun in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) on March 1st, and despite finishing four lengths off the pace, stamped herself as a two-year-old to watch throughout autumn.

Lee Curtis is yet to set a path Press Report this campaign, but is likely to aim her towards the Brisbane winter carnival and Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) on May 17th.

Gerald Ryan and David Hayes are the only trainers to nominate more than one runner for the 2014 Sweet Embrace Stakes; Believe Yourself and Tetsuko for the former and For Lulu and Tawteen for the latter.

Believe Yourself is yet to be defeated her short career so far, extended to one race win and two Rosehill barrier trials to date.

Tawteen has slowly built to the task for Hayes since debuting in a Cranbourne barrier trial in September; finishing fifth in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) before comfortably winning the King Of Speed Maiden (900m) by nearly five lengths.
